Hi folks,

I’m looking to build/upgrade my current MacPro desktop to be as fast as possible when running the Adobe CS5 software and Final Cut Pro. Here’s what I have currently:

MacPro Quad-Core Xeon, two 3.2 GHz processors, eight cores
16 GB RAM
OSX 10.6.3
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT
Apple Raid Card with 4 TB internal storage
30” Apple Cinema Display
20” Apple Display

What advice would you give as far as hardware upgrades go? I tried upgrading my video card to the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 but I didn’t see that much of a difference in speed for the price so I returned the card. Are there any other hardware upgrades I should consider to speed up renders and or live previews? I’ve heard the CompressHD card will speed up the creation of h.264 files, but will it do much more than that? I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, After Effects, Aperture and Final Cut most often.

Thanks Everyone,

Hoopafied

Sounds like you've already got more than enough hardware for CS5 and FC.

Maybe add an external firewire drive for a scratch disk.

Other than that... I think you're flying already.

yeah dude, more than enough.

CS5 runs fine on MBP 3,1 2.4ghz, larger files can take a wee time to open. I don't think you will have that problem.

Are you running it on there now? Is there a problem in performance?
