I bought a powermac g5 off of craigslist and I brought it home and I plugged it and and All i got were two beeps and the fans went on high. I have been googleing and it turns out that it is a ram problem. The ram that was in the computer is Memorex 256. Is it just incompatible ram?

Memorex RAM? Never seen that.

Do you know the basic specs of the Powermac G5? That would help us figure out the proper RAM you need.

One stick of 256? Someone removed the ram that came in the machine. Ive never seen a Memorex stick! You should of plugged it in before you paid for it and got the price down more...your going to have to buy some memory.

I completely agree. Unless the OP made a mistake and it's a Micron stick, I have never seen memorex RAM, just flash drives.

To add to my other post, there should be a label somewhere with the basic specs on the case. Maybe underneath. Have not seen a Powermac G5 in ages.

Thanks for that. I was just going to look at my PM G5 service manuals. Now I do not have to.

Dont hold me to it...You know Apple it may be some place else by model or year.;D

I checked every Powermac G5 service manual. Every one from first to last has that label where you said it was. Just info for the OP. Please let us know the basic specs.

It is a PowerMac G5 with a 2 GHZ Dual Core Processor 512 mb ram 160 gb hard drive. I know it takes PC 4200 and that is what the memorex sticks are in there. There are 2 sticks of 256 MB RAM by Memorex.

A 256MB module would not be standard when the machine was new and it may not even be Mac compatible. All G5's came with a minimum of 2x256MB modules. That is why you maybe getting the alarm also some G5's require modules to be fitted in matched pairs prior to you being able to boot.

As suggested get some Mac compatible memory, minimum of 2 x 512MB modules matched pair, and remove what is installed at the moment. It is vital the modules be fitted in slots one and two only.
