• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I need some help choosing the right kind of Mac for Final Cut use.
I'm planning to get the new MacBook Pro, and I am wondering if that is a good choice specifically to edit on Final Cut, and what do I have to take into consideration?

minimum 4 BG
how much of CPU Power would be suggested?
Firewire concerns, for speed

Thanks

Your Mac's Specs
21.5" iMac, 3.06GHz duo, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, NVIDIA 9400M| 8GB iPod Touch
A laptop is not ideal for editing video, especially HD, so get and iMac if possible for the best editing performance. Editing is possible though on the new MBP though, even the 13" could actually handle some light editing.

To tell you the truth, I use a macbook pro 2007 17 inch for editing, and while it isn't the most powerful laptop in the world, I am able to edit HD video fine. The render sometimes takes longer than I plan, but overall editing on a macbook pro is fine.
