i picked up a used black macbook from my work for really cheap, they put a brand new battery and upgraded the ram to 2GB before selling it to me. The problem with it is the dvd/cd combo drive is broken, it won't take in a disc.

I know I could get a USB drive to install things (I want to bootcamp it and upgrade it to snow leopard) but I was wondering if it was possible to use the utility that the Air uses to share another computer's optical drive with my macbook.

Thanks,
meshe

Your Mac's Specs
MacBook Pro, 2.53 GHz, 4 GB DDR3, 250 GB HDD, 10.6.4
I had pretty much the same problem (drive slipped inside the case somehow). I'm pretty sure you can do a network boot. Your other option is to set up your dream system on an external along with SuperDuper! or another disc copying utility and simply copy the drive onto the hard drive in the machine. A bit convoluted, but it'll work.
