2009 imac 21.5", 256mb radeon card, etc
I'm thinking of buying one, but I imagine every now and then (once a month or so) I might want to take it somewhere, maybe over to a friend's place to play some games or to the living room to watch a movie.

I was wondering, imac owners, what your experience is lugging the thing around. Is it a pain to move it? What do you do to protect it?

We have some in the computer labs here, and they don't seem TOO heavy, but I'd like to hear from some people who have dealt with imacs that aren't chained to their desks.

thanks!

The 21.5" iMac weighs about 20 pounds...and isn't too large of a "package" volume-wise...so I would think that if you were transporting it via car...you would be ok. If you had to use mass transit (bus or train)...or it you had to walk a pretty good distance (more than half a mile) then it might be a little more hassle.

Wouldn't recommend it at all.

I guess it would be easier than carrying monitor and box to a LAN party.

Moving it around the house should be no biggie..but to take to people's place and so on..it's not much more than a 20" LCD..just a bit more heavier..

Regards

OP mentioned this in another thread:

...I bet I could make myself a really nice case for the imac for those times I will want to move it.

So this is what I was thinking when I said it might not be too bad to carry a 21" iMac around. A nice bag or case of some sort with some heavy duty handles or shoulder straps would make carrying a 20 pound iMac a lot easier.

Kind of like the old days...and the special bag that was designed to carry the original Mac, Mac Plus, Mac SE, Mac Classic in:

It's not TOO bad to carry around-- But it's still a 20 pound 21.5 inch machine.
