Hey all,

I noticed that on mac rumors it says that the next imac release is about 30 days away. Didn't apple add the new intel processors midway thru the current product line? Anyone think that the processor upgrade mid-cycle might delay the next imac release? Just trying to decide if I should hold out 30d to see what happens.

Thanks!!

The Mac Rumors buyer's guide is just an estimate based on previous release cycles. You can't fully base your purchases on that alone but it does give you a rough guesstimate on when a release might happen.

You can't really go by Intel's roadmap either because sometimes Apple requests a specially designed processor which might be released at anytime unknown to us. As in the example from the recent MBPs it might be released later then expected. If you don't need a computer soon then you can wait if you want but if you need to replace your computer now then it might be a long wait if Apple doesn't repeat their past release timelines.

No telling when Apple will release a new iMac. If you look at past releases you will see that it varies anyway from 6 months to 10 months for new iMac models; that's an average of 8 months. Since the last release was Oct 2009, an approximate date would be around this June or July.

If you need a new iMac, buy it now. They are very good desktop machines and will be useful for many years to come.

Regards.

I would not be surprised if the imac refresh cycle is longer then is has been in the past. With so many othe Apple products on the go now there's just not enough hours in the day to dedeicate all the staff to imac hardware. And secondly the hardware itself (from intel and others) is being upgraded in a much slower timeframe these days. Yes this means more time before an imac refresh. But it also means more time before your imac is obelete. So it's not all bad.
