I have a 500gb Time Capsule that I would like to upgrade to a couple of TBs. Any reason I can't pull the drive and clone it to an new 2TB WD drive?

Expect to void your Warranty - and don't forget that the 500GB and 1TB (first models) can suffer from heat problems. Anyway here is an article on putting in a WD Green drive

So if you are in there anyway you might as well look at your power caps to see if they are OK.

Just a warning as I had my original TC die - so I pulled out the hard drive and put it into a cage - all my data was intact and I just bought a new Time Capsule - hooked the cage to that and have 3TB of storage on the network now.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm pretty well past the warranty now anyway, so I will add this to my project list. :)
