Drive Space just disappears ???

all of a sudden my mac book pros hard drive is suddenly full,

I had about 15gb then 0gb's

I freed up another 10 gb, leave my house for a few hours and when I returned it was back to 0!!!!

could I have some sort of virus? or some background application which is doing somthing weird to my system?

Has anyone heard of this before?

I'm running the latest version of OS X, my mac is 2 years old, 2.53 processor, 4gb RAM.
