Video converter from FLV to MPEG

Hello.
Can anybody please recommend a free software to convert .flv files to .avi or .mpeg? I'd like to have not a trial version, but a permanent one.

I have been using it all the time and it never let me down yet, although you might spend some time tweaking the settings the very few first times. It has fully operational Mac, Windows and Linux(Wine) versions.

This is not a real Mac OS X application.

The OP should look for VisualHub if you can still find it (free), MPEG Streamclip (free) or ReduxEncoder (free) to do this job.
