Question about downloaded Apps

I just hooked up my new mini to the internet and I'm new to macs so i figured I'd ask you guys.

I downloaded Mozilla and Msn Messenger. Whenever I use them, the little white disk (as though i've attached a USB device) shows up. I'd rather not have those there. Is there any way around that?

What should I do?

Drag the Application files in the disk images (White hard disk icon) into your Applications folder and open the program from there
