Can i run my macbook pro with the lid closed???

Hey,

Im wanting to run my macbook pro through my TV through the mini display port.

Is there a way i can set it up, connect to TV and actually close the lid of the macbook without it shutting down??

And if you don't have a spare keyboard and mouse, just dim the display all the way down.
