I've tried this three times now, the last two times doing a disk utility check and repair permissions. I still get the message that the installer could not check contents of package.

I am not very technical so any help or advice is most welcome!

Are you trying to install via the Software Update or as a separate download ?
Secondly ... are you installing the appropriate security update for your OS ( 10.5.8 ) and not the one for Snow Leopard ( 10.6.x )

Cheers ... McBie

The install is an update that was not prompted by me but automatically came up and prompted me to install. I was prompted a second time by the bouncing globe symbol a week after the first failure.

Would I be sent an update by Apple that was for an OS I didn't have? I don't know, as all I know is it was 2010-003.
