I recently purchased a 15in i7 core Macbook Pro and am interesting in hooking up my Logitech z-5500 speaker system to it. The direct connection that comes with the z-5500 includes 3 cords, yet the Macbook only has a headphone jack. The z-5500 also has a coax and optical input option but the Macbook obviously lacks both. I was just wondering the best way to connect my Macbook to the z-5500 with as little quality loss as possible.

Your MBP's audio port is a combo stereo analog and digital optical.

For optical, you will need a mini-toslink to connect to your MBP. So, you'll be looking for a mini toslink to toslink cable or adapter if you already have an optical cable.

Here's a listing containing a few of both - link.
