• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I created a DVD on a PC using Adobe's Premier Elements 7. I now have switched to an iMac using OS X 10.6.3. Of course it plays well on the iMac. I want to create a copy of the DVD.

Can I do that on the iMac? How?

Either disc utility or Burn.
Burn is a free app that will let you copy the DVD, and disc utility you already have.

Make a Folder on your Desktop, copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders from the DVD into this new folder on your Desktop. Poof, DVD is copied. No extra software is needed at all.

A video DVD is only a regular UDF formatted data DVD with the properly formatted "_TS" folders on it. The audio folder will be empty, but it still must be present.

To burn a new copy of the DVD, insert a blank DVD into your Mac, when prompted, let your Mac open it in the Finder. Drag the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders into it, Burn it, done. It really is that simple.

The only exception is copy protected DVD's, and copying them is illegal.
