trasferring is very slow

hi
i have macbook running 10.4.11 and just started using external harddrive for music and photos - so now my mac harddrive has 60gb free. i aslo upgreated to 2gb of RAM. For some reason transferring pictures from my card reader to the desktop and trying to view pictures in Bridge is taking forever. none of this was happening before. does anybody have any suggestions.?

What did you use to transfer your files to the external drive? What you're describing is a little strange, but it could have something to do with something newly introduced on the system.
