i have installed the profile from benm and the tethering menu disapears....remove the profile and it returns...

my iphone is locked to o2.....is it a case of jailbreak and unlock and reinstall benm's profile?

The benm profile does not work with 3.1.3. Google "commcenter patch" and you should find a similar profile which works with 3.1.2 (and also 3.1.3). Unlocking has nothing to do with it.

It requires OpenSSH which requires Cydia so yes it does. I've now said too much though. The mods at MF do not permit discussion of jailbreaking any longer. I was hoping to quietly steer you in the right direction, but I've now crossed the line.
