Could this be a sign of a dying ipod?

I had my 80gb Ipod Classic since 2008 and now it's starting to show some weird signs. I recently just recovered all my music files and now today when I was uploading them to it using iTunes 9.1. I noticed that I cannot just drag and drop music over like I normally did. In October it became unusable due to corruption of data. Fixed it and it's been fine ever since.
Today though I used Disk Utility and got a message saying that i needed to repair the disk but then a error pops up saying that it could not

You can't drag and drop from iTunes unless you have 'Manually manage' checked on the General tab.

now I know that...i knew aout that for years...but with it checked it still won't let me

Have you already tried to reformat the iPod and start from scratch?

I did and it's doing pretty good as of now
