I know that with a Windows PC you really need a firewall if you have dsl. Does this apply witha mac? I have Norton Personal on my pc is this a good one for Mac also?

Yes, every computer should have a firewall. (Except maybe old OS 9 Macs, but those days are gone.)
Mac OS X has a built-in firewall. Open System Preferences, click on Sharing, and click the Firewall tab.
