I am interested in purchasing a scanner that is very good at duplicating artwork from oversized art books, rendering the images as close to the original as possible.

Speed and volume are not important. The quality and the capability to duplicate oversized masterworks from books is.

Any thoughts?

In the consumer/retail realm, you'll definitely be looking for a dedicated flatbed photo scanner but the issue will be accommodating oversized prints.

A good large format scanner can be very pricey depending on your needs and how high quality you want to go.

If you're looking for something even more capable, then you'll have to start looking at professional grade scanners and that will quickly reach the thousands or tens of thousands of dollar range.

Check out Amazon and do a search for "large format scanner" and you'll get a list of scanners and sizes that they will do along with user reviews. The affordable Mustek gets mixed reviews.

Note that some "large format" scanners can only scan up to 8.5 x 14 which is a very limited large format.

Hope this gives you a good start.
