I've recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my macbook 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 1.5 GB 533 MHz memory, running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and have noticed that it doesn't run as smoothly as I would like. Should I re-install Windows 7 but with the 32 bit version? Would this run better on my macbook?

Hello all,
I have recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my Macbook 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1.5 GB 533 MHz memory and everything seems to be running ok. However, it's not running very smoothly (e.g. it takes a long time to start up simple applications like Safari). Should I re-install Windows 7 but with the 32 bit version? Would this run better on my macbook?

You really don't have enough horse power to run either version of Windows 7 on that machine. Win 7 uses quite a bit of resources compared to say, XP. I would max out the memory in your Mac (probably 2 GB). Also, you state your MacBook uses 533 MHz memory? According to MacTracker, it uses 667 MHz.

You didn't say what you're using Windows for, but if it's for playing games or just running a casual Windows program, you would be better off running XP Home instead. And yes, Windows 7 64 bit is way overkill for your machine.

Regards.

thanks for the insights. I'm pretty new to the windows world, i've been a mac user my whole life and only recently got curious to see how windows would run on my mac. I'll see how windows xp home edition works for me. Thanks!
