Are there any applications that allow you to clear junk from your downloads folder?

Is there an application that searches for things like pdfs and other stuff cluttering the downloads folder and allows you to delete them?

well obviously but it doesn't help you find the junk, it just shows everything in the folder.

Are you talking about temp files/cache? The removal of these files depends on the browser you are using? For Safari for example, go to Safari > Reset Safari.

What bobtomay is saying is that everything you need is already part of finder. Use the search bar if you want to delete all the pdf's by searching '.pdf'. Or just go through manually by holding command and clicking everything you don't want, then drag to the trash. Simple :)

What would you want an app to do?
Do you want to set some "rules" and let it be automated, with no verification by you that it's doing what you expect?

Define ' junk ' and then pretend to be an app.
By the time you told the app what your definition of ' junk ' is , you have cleaned it out yourself using ...... finder.

Normally, anything that is not ' junk ' should not be in the download folder IMHO.

Cheers ... McBie

Upon opening the download folder from within Safari, I see a button that says "clear" (meaning remove all finished downloads from the list). Does that not solve the problem?

For what it's worth, even though I was beaten to the punch, from another seasoned Mac vet...

Yes, there is a great application for doing just that. It is in fact called... ta da! The Finder!
