Apple Remote controlling dock and laptop, Any way to specify?

Hey everyone,

Around xmas time I bought an Apple Remote because it's just a lot easier than reaching over to my MBP to play, pause and skip songs. A few days ago I bought an Apple Universal Dock to charge my iPhone as the dock I had was part of a Creative 2.0 PC speaker setup that I don't use anymore and always had problems charging (said it wasn't compatible), and to my surprise, the Universal Dock comes with an Apple Remote (white plastic one, the other one I have is the aluminium one). I can see this being very useful for the same reasons.

However, both of these remotes control each other. If I use the remote with the dock to play music or change volume, it does the same on my laptop. And vice versa. Is there any way to specify a device to a remote?

Pairing your Apple Remote with your computer

this will fix the one that's attached to your MBP:

Pairing your remote with your Mac:

Log in on your Mac as an Admin user.
Get very close to your Mac (about 3 or 4 inches away).
Point the remote at the infrared sensor on the front of your Mac.
Press and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-forward buttons simultaneously on the remote for 5 seconds.
Your Apple Remote is now paired with your computer. You should see a chain-link style lock appear in the center of your screen for a moment.

Pairing the Apple Remote with the iPod Universal Dock - this is for the dock.

Make sure other products that are compatible with the remote are powered off.
Connect the dock to your computer or to an electrical outlet.
Put an iPod in the dock and turn the iPod on.
Point the remote at the front of the dock.

Press and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-Forward buttons together for about six seconds. There is no visible feedback to indicate the pairing is complete.
