I see the name for my computer under the Devices section in the Sidebar, but I do not have an option to change the name. When I bought my MacBook, I just did a Time Machine backup from my iMac, and now my device name has the word iMac in it and it just looks stupid since this is a MacBook.

How do I change that name? I have searched all throughout System Preferences and I cannot find it. :( It is driving me crazy.

Highlight the drive icon on the desktop, press enter, type in whatever you'd like to call it, then press enter again.

I need to back up - are you talking about the name of the machine or the name of the partition OS X is installed on?

I don't know what it is. It is just the first thing listed under "Devices" on the sidebar. It was just saying Felicia's iMac when I just had the iMac, and once I did the Time Machine backup on the MacBook, now the iMac is saying Felicia's iMac(2) and the MacBook is saying Felicia's iMac.

I only have one partition on my MacBook and 2 partitions on my iMac. One is running OS X Snow Leopard and the other is running Windows XP.

Ok, to change the computer name, open up System Preferences

Head for Sharing - Computer Name is right there on the top line.

Just type in the name you want and close the window.

The edit button there is to change the name of what others will see if you are sharing anything on your local network.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Yep, I've had posters offer to buy me drinks in gratitude for my help, but never had anyone telling me that they could kiss me.
Maybe that was their plan! To get me drunk first, and then have their way with me.... :D
