iPhone 3G - White - Showing white screen? I can't restore it!

Hello all!

My iPhone 3G, White is just showing a white screen when I connect it to my computer, and sometimes it just shows nothing when it's disconnected. It won't let me restore it because it's password protected, and I can't type in the password on my iPhone.

Is there a way to do it outside of iTunes?

Also, sometimes it shows some weird lines across the screen every once in a little while instead of just a full white screen.

Try holding down the power and home button at the same time this should reboot it.

I've tried that, it needs a software complete restore/reformat, not just a simple restart.
