Hi,

I have a macbook running snow leopard 10.6.3, and have an issue with the translucent menu bar. Everytime I turn the option on in system preferences, it turns itself off again after some time. I had this issue when i had leopard installed too. I wonder if anyone knows how to fix this? I've tried repairing permissions but it didn't work. Thanks!

com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

Find that ^ file in Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences and move it to your Desktop.
Restart. That will make a new one.
Problem solved?

If so, Trash the file on your Desktop.

Mac OS X 10.5: Menu bar appears solid instead of translucent

Also this works. Type it in terminal.

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.WindowServer 'EnvironmentVariables' -dict 'CI_NO_BACKGROUND_IMAGE' 1

0 gives you a flat white menu bar. 1 gives you a steel grey, shaded menu bar. 0.5 (for instance) gives you something in between.
