Upgrade nightmare

I have a Mac mini and have attempted an upgrade to Tiger from 10.3.7.
The installation quit halfway through with an error message saying "there has been been an error installing the software", cunningly enough.

It gave me the option to reinstall. I tried every option wrt Erase and install, upgrade only, archive and install, same error.

I then tried to reinstall 10.3.7 and it gave the same error.

I have a a Bluetoooth wireless mouse and keyboard, which i replaced normal mose and keyboard, in case that was the problem. No luck.

Is there something basic which I am overlooking? Is this as a result of global warming?
