Don't really know where to put this thread, but I want to buy a new computer and I am unsure weather to buy a 20inch iMac 2.0ghz and 2gb ram... or a a power mac?

Quite different machines :) If I was upgrading an iMac that far, I'd be looking at a Powermac since I think there's a price overlap somewhere there. Especially if you already have a decent monitor (apart from laptops, I'm not keen on the idea of all-in-one machines... I'd rather have a choice of monitor). I also like the idea of being able to update the graphics card.

But that's me. It's a choice that's partly personal, partly financial.

Well, you will get better performace and a beautiful display for cheaper than a powermac. I'd go for the iMac. Unless you need more than 2GB of ram, or need to add PCI cards. Just think of a G5 and cinema display in one that so compact, or a powermac G5 2ghz and a 20" cinema display. The iMac G5 is the best for performance and a lower budget.

i agree that i like the flexibility of a tower system, whether that's a PC or mac. 'all in one' computers are like 'all in one' TV/VCR/DVD combo's: when one goes they are all pretty useless :eek:neye:

hmmm...i would say iMac, just because it is such a simple set up and is just as capable of matching the power of the tower. not to mention that you get your display and computer in one package. I am looking in to getting the iMac as well.
