running the GMA 950 with 1GB of RAM. 1080p Youtube runs at like 8 FPS, basically un watchable. Is this my GMA , or safari or youtube that sucks.

It's a combination of Flash and GMA950 pulling your poor computer down into the Ninth Level of Suckitude.

I have a Mini with GMA950 and can watch 1080P full screen without one dropped frame all day long. These are vids from Apple. So it must be Flash although I have had no issues on that same mini on You Tube but not sure if I ever watched a video at 1080p there.

Or you could watch a lower-resolution video?

What size screen are you watching this on? Really anything under about 30 inches, 1080p/i videos are pretty pointless....

I have a BlackBook with the same specs and 1080i video plays fine. Flash-based players do drag it down if I'm trying to watch streaming, I usually just wait for the video to fully load then watch it.

I would guess it's a combination of factors:
1. If you have a GMA 950 chipset and a 1600x900 screen, that means you have a second screen attached. So this make the GMA chipset work harder.

2. Flash sucks.

3. 1GB RAM is also part of the problem. I'd at least double that.

4. What else is running at the time? Flash requires a LOT of processor power (see #2), not just video power.

5. Try signing up for the YouTube HTML5 beta and see if that works better for you, it did for me.

and finally:

6. Flash REALLY sucks.
