Your Mac's Specs
Mac Mini (late 2009) with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2
For the Apple Calender, I want to know some things.

  1. Does it have to be open for me to get alerts?
  2. If it does, is there a workaround for that?
Cause, I want to get my alerts when they happen, but I don't want to open Calendar all the time.

iCal does not have to be open for you to receive alerts on appointments or other calendar events.
