Sylvania tv and Macbook Pro

I bought a mini dvi to hdmi connector from microcenter today that doesn't work on my hdtv. It works on another tv/monitor that supports 1080p. Mine only supports 720p, but when I plug it in, it just says that it is "not supported format." It is a Sylvania LD320SSX - 32" LCD TV. I have changed all of the settings and tried all of the different resolution outputs, but nothing seems to work.... any ideas?

Yup

I already went through that post, including the turning both the tv off and mac off and turning the tv on first, and none of those tips got it to work correctly.
