I'm a complete Mac Novice but have bought a second hand Mac Pro with 250 GB of memory. I want to upgrade to 2 terabytes but not sure which one would be the best for my system. I know that buying direct from the Mac Shop costs a fortune, but there are just as many to chose from out there!

Any suggestions?! Anyone?

Your Mac Pro DOES NOT have 250GB of memory!

Memory is ram...NOT hard drive space!

Wow, three posts and not a single one helpful in the least bit. Bravo gentlemen.

To the OP, to actually answer your question, there are a variety of places you can purchase a hard drive for your Mac. You can either go to a brick and mortar store like Fry's or Best Buy and get a hard drive from there, though you will find cheaper prices online at places like Newegg or Amazon.

Mac Pros take regular SATA hard drives, so just make sure you get one with 7200RPM from a reputable manufacturer like Seagate or Western Digital.

Maybe the OP meant a MacBook Pro as it was placed in the notebook forums? Do a search of Other World Computing (OWC), find your precise model whether it be a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro, check prices and shop around.

Very possible. I know some people make the mistake of calling their MacBook Pro a Mac Pro...not realizing that there is a Mac Pro desktop.

Yeah...probably not overly helpful.:(

One of my "pet peeves" is when someone says they have "250 GB of memory"...when they're actually saying they have a 250 GB hard drive or 250 GB of hard drive space.
