Question about double tapping the home button.

Ok so I've got the latest software on my iPod touch and I love it but I remember on the old software whenever I would double tap the home button it would pop up that little rectangle with the iPod controls. Now it just goes to the iPod. Is there anyway to get just that little rectangle back?

That feature is still there, you just need to be playing music for the iPod controls to pop up when you double tap, hence why the iPod app opens up if you're not playing music.
