I've just downloaded Macscan and scaned my machine. The results have a few tracking cookies which is fine but at the end it suggests I have a keylogger called Dutywatch 1.4.

It's found this in one of my Adium IM converstation logs -an xml file. This doesn't seem to make sense. Has macscan made an error? Or have i somehow managed to get something untoward on my machine?

Dutywatch could not be installed on your machine except by someone who has your password physically installing it.

You don't say if this is a work machine, a used machine you never erased, or if you have a jealous lover, or what. So I can't say much beyond the first sentence of this post.

It's an office machine.

But what seems odd is that it's pointing to a chat history xml file as the location - but there's nothing there except the xml file?

It might be that Macscan is getting confused by the Adium chat log as a keylogger log since everything you typed was captured..you can probably ignore it..

That's what I thought, but my concern was raised because it seems to have singled out just one of many conversation log files

It is also possible that since this is z work machine, your employer monitors computer usage.

ActyMac - DutyWatch employee monitoring for Mac OS X

"ActyMac DutyWatch is an Employee Monitoring Software for Mac OS X. It can record and log everything your employees do - from recording employee keystrokes typed and website visits, to chats, employee emails and screenshots.

DutyWatch is completely invisible to your employees. It runs silently and unobtrusively while logging everything that happens on your employee's computers. ActyMac DutyWatch captures all keystrokes, makes periodic screen captures of employee's desktops, logs programs that are opened or closed. "

It is a possibility...
