As the title says, does anyone know how to stop the machine (Mid-2009 MBP) from entering sleep mode when the screen is shut? Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

Mate InsomniaX will do the trick LINKY

Just be careful and remember its activated when you need to rush out the house with it. You close the lid and slip it into your backpack and travel. It will get hot and all parts will still be able to move, and could cause damage to your machine ... Not what you want at all.....
Just FYI :)

Thanks for the quick reply, TattooedMac, exactly what I was looking for!

And thanks for the warning as well. I don't plan to use this software a lot. Its just that I hook up the MBP to a 23" HD screen while doing any media stuff and I need to be able to shut the screen because I don't have space for both screens to be used at the same time. Just a quick question though, when I enable Insomnia and shut the screen, even though the machine doesn't go to sleep, the display should, right? Mine doesn't. Is that the way its supposed to be? And will there be any heat issues if I do things as mentioned above?

Thanks again! :)

The screen won't go to sleep..... best you can do is dim it down to black.

Actually, you can set up a hot corner to sleep display!
Once again, caution, as you don't want to forget that your machine is still awake!!!

CAUTION/WARNING/BEWARE
I'm very much against this application, although I can see how it is useful to you, so just be vigilant if you are going to be using it.

6string, setting up a hot corner didn't work for me, because activating it puts both the screens to sleep! But its okay, I'll just dim down the screen whenever I need to use my other screen.

So yeah, that's now sorted!
Thanks a bunch for your help guys, very much appreciated! :)

I had a sneaking suspicion after I posted it that it may be the case! Sorry
