Can you defrag a mac? im running tiger on a powerbook and i can't seem to figure out how to do it.

No there is no defrag on the Mac, it's not necessary. Having a journaled file system takes care of that for you.

I keep seeing this...

Filesystem journaling has nothing to do with defragging. Journaling is a feature that maintains filesystem integrity by keeping a "journal" of activity. If a system crash occurs, the "journal" can be used to detect files that were corrupted when the system crashed.

Defragmenting is a process that ensures that files are stored contiguously on the disk for faster performance.

Defragging -> SPEED
Journaling -> RELIABILITY

OS X has both filesystem journaling and automatic defragmenting.

I believe that after u install something it performs a small defrag, I'm not sure though, I'm no expert.
