Your question doesn't make any sense. OS X 10.5 and 10.6 are different versions of the OS X operating system. This is akin to asking if Windows XP is compatible with Windows 7. Could you clarify what it is you're looking for?

Like Vansmith said...your question doesn't make sense...is confusing!:(

You need to have a specific question regarding compatibility between OS 10.5.8 and 10.6.

Generally speaking you only have one OS version installed on a computer at any one time (except for Windows via Bootcamp on a Macintosh, or "Classic" on an older Mac).

Some say Windows 98 and XP are the same OS. NT Kernel Vs DOS with a GUI.

A lot of people think 10.6 is just some eye candy on top of 10.5. SO MANY changes to the core OS and under the hood.

I have no idea what the OP is asking, but they are very different in many ways. If you mean application compatibility, most 10.5 stuff will run on 10.6 but not all.

This is most likely a pretty good guess at what the OP was really asking!:)

Maybe they are thinking of upgrading to 10.6 from 10.5.8.

Here is a list of known incompatible software. Is there any software you're concerned about? (I'm working on the premise that you're concerned about software problems).

Not all hardware running 10.5.8 can run 10.6. 10.5.8, or "Leopard," was the last build for the Motorola line of processors, commonly referred to as G4 or G5. OS X 10.6, or "Snow Leopard," was the first Intel-only OS and cannot be run on the Motorola processors. In that way, 10.5.8 and 10.6 are not compatible, but it's dependent on the hardware architecture.

This is correct except for the reference to Motorola. IBM was the maker of the PowerPC chips that Apple used prior to the Intel switch, not Motorola. Apple stopped using Motorola chips back in the early 90s.

Any, for the OP, if you're asking if you can upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6, the answer is yes, provided you've got a Mac no more than a few years old.
