To be completely fair, fast metadata search ("Spotlight") was first implemented in an operating system called BeOS, from Be, Inc. Apple almost bought Be, but instead acquired NeXT.

In some ways, BeOS was more advanced than OS X is today.

I don't mind Longhorn. If Apple is to improve its products, it needs viable competition. And I hope they put a comprehensive security architecture in this one; it'll make life better for all of us.

I have a beta of Longhorn, and i can only say it is like a tarted up XP, but thats what tiger is as well right? I mean, yes its still windows, but windows is great for some things, and so is X, i'm not the kind of person who says 'I'm not even using that, its windows...'
Obviously i prefer X, otherwise i'd be posting on windows forums.......
Thanks
Alex

it did look like spotlight, then again, when has M$ ever come up with something original, except for crashing, and sucking in general, it doesn't matter how many of tiger's features they attempt to copy, bottom line is that its still windows, and always will be.

I think M$ if they really want to try to catch up with Mac, they have to start over again with their operating system and go 'nix.

That is so true, "best form of flatering is imitation" or something like that, i forget the exact words to almost all quotes all the time.

By the time 'Longhorn' ships, Apple will be onto something better. Apple's is so much more refined, even now, being that is a little inconspicuous app that runs wherever, and is accessible ALL THE TIME. Microsoft is too late to the party.
