Hey

For some reason on Safari on my mac the google page looks strange, and I have a new sidebar in the search results. I've attached two pictures. Is this something with just some browsers? or is something wrong with my computer?

Thanks,

Maybe it is just Google testing something out?

It doesn't look strange to me, but then I use Yahoo 99% of the time.

I've seen that sidebar a few times. I don't believe it's a browser issue because I use Firefox most of the time and remember seeing it. Google might be testing something new because I only saw it for awhile and then it went away on it's own.

I don't know if I accidentally changed something but I don't think so. That sidebar no longer shows up for me on any browser.

edited: When in doubt do a...Google search. I found this article about it. Apparently Google is trying out this new feature.

I did the same search as you. On mine there is a clicker toward the top left that says Show Options or Hide Options. If I click Show Options I get basically what you are seeing. I see no Hide Options though in your screen shot.

Also what version of Safari are you using and which version of OSX? Here 10.5.8 Leopard and 4.0.4 Safari.

I think the Show Options is something else. I also have that and can open and collapse it anytime I want too. I believe Rohan's sidebar is something else and I had the exact same thing awhile back. I wonder if Google is having random users test out their new sidebar?

Very possible. I don't remember ever seeing that option here though and just what I showed in the pic.

it makes sense that google is testing something, but the only thing I don't understand is why only my computer is getting it 100% of the time. I checked on my friend's mac with Safari and he's never got it.
I also had the fade-in thing much before other people got it, is my computer marked by google for testing?

oh and im running snow leopard 10.6.2 - with Safari 4.0.4

I have had one machine out of the 6-10 I use daily where Google was different and just on that one system. Who knows! Only thing that came close here was what I mentioned in my message above.
