Can someone tell me what I did and how I lost my Downloads folder from my Dock? It used to always sit there and fanned out beautifully when I hit it.

I can locate the folder by downloading something, but i don't know how then to stick it back in Dock so it stays there, nor how to ensure that it fans out when I click on it.

Thanks for your expert help. :)

I tried that, INAP - it dragged to behind the dock, not onto it. What now? :[

Are you sure you are dragging it to the right side of the Dock? It has to be on the right side of the Dock's subtle divider line. Folders cannot be on the left side of this divider line. It will go "behind" the Dock as you have described.

edited: INAP beat me too it.

Thanks, guys. Yes, I got it back onto the Dock by dragging it onto the right side as you suggested.

*Now how do I get it to "fan" open again?

I appreciate the superb and rapid help you've afforded me!

As it was implied we have a problem with spontaneous pregnancies on this forum. It seems that just interacting on this forum is the root cause...;)

Don't judge us though. We are not a bad group...once you get to know us. :)

Can someone tell me what I did and how I lost my Downloads folder from my Dock?

I don't see that this question was answered.

Most items in the Dock will disappear with an image of a puff of smoke if you click, hold, and drag them off the Dock. It's easy (well, relatively, as you've seen) to put them back. Applications to the left, folders (which transform into Stacks when placed on the Dock) on the right. Open application icons that do not have a permanent slot appear on the right end of the left side. Simple.

So, someone accidently (or on purpose) dragged that icon off of the Dock, and it disappeared.

The puff of smoke behavior also applies to items on the Sidebar of your Finder windows, and the remedy is the same. But careful, as noted, things have a way of multiplying. ;)
