I have an itunes library which has 1084 songs all mp3, would there be any benefit in converting all of them to AAC? Would there be any difference in quality?

Thanks =]

Nope. If you are importing from CD, it is generally considered that AAC is slightly better sounding than MP3, but converting MP3 is a big no no. You are basically creating a transcode, which is always bad.
Basically taking a compressed format and re-compressing it to another in other words.

Kev makes it sound like its illegal or something. :)

You can certainly convert the files if you wish, but there's no advantage to doing so, and as Kev says re-compressing just causes more quality loss. Just leave the MP3s as they are (or re-rip them from CD if you like).
