Problem with magic mouse on OSX 10.5.8

I just bought a new magic mouse and am using it on OSX 10.5.8 . The tracking is working flawlessly and the left and right clicks work fine, but the scrolling in the middle does not work. I opened magic prefs the moment I got the mouse but my driver wasn't supported. Does that have something to do with it? Does magicpref halt the original functions of the mouse? And in system preferences when I go into mouse it gives me only three things, tacking speed, sensitivity and primary clicky. Thanks.
