I never switch off my MBP , open the lid, do work, close the lid.
I only reboot when Apple Software Update asks me to...... easy.

I probably shut it down for one reason or another about monthly. Normally this is because I'm transporting it and I feel better about it banging around with it being totally shut down.
Other than that, I never routinely shut it down.

Wow, good to know. I take mine with me everyday, so I shut down to transport. Once at home, I just shut the lid.

I only ever sleep as well. But I will caution you - on at least 3 occasions, I have caught my MBP not going to sleep even though the lid is closed. I don't know for sure why this happens, but I always wait until I see the pulsating sleep light *before* putting it into my bag. On those occasions where it didn't sleep, I pulled it out of my bag to find it red hot and the fans blaring.

Not that I own a MB, but a great believer in closing down daily as booting is important in maintaining a good OS. The heat thing is a real worry with MB's and not worth the risk one imagines! Have a read of this for more views:-

Is it better to sleep or shut down your Mac? - Interrupt19

Interesting article I like many others never shut mine down (besides the occasional reboot). I may wake up in the middle of night and want to use it, I don't want to wait for it to boot up,On top of that I keep several programs running 24x7. As for the power usage I pay my power bill I'm not concerned. If heat is an issue SMCFanControl is a great app to keep your Mac much cooler.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
I run OnyX weekly, and other than the restart at the end of the maintenance, software updates is the only other reason I restart.
Have had 28months so far of no problems with this MB under these conditions.

Weekly is really pushing it. You are actually slowing your machine down, killing its caches off so frequently. Once every few months is more than sufficient.

I know, but for the last few months, I've had a couple of friends without the net use my Mac quite often, and I like to clean up after they're done....... before that, I was very lax, and was maybe every month or 2 :)
