• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi there,

My friend burnt a mini disc dvd of my band and its all bup ifo and vob files. How can I convert to avi to post on Facebook? I've seen alot of this topic but I really don't want to pay for a program since this will prob be a one time thing. Freeware (that is not spam and actually works) would be awesum. Is there any online apps I could just load these files into and convert them for free?? I'm looking for the simplest most effective route. Thanks in advance I appreciate any advice. OH BTW I'm using a Macbook w/ Os x

You shouldn't need to convert it to AVI, you should be able to convert it to mp4 for facebook too AFAIK.

To convert to mp4, just use handbrake.

np. Worst case scenario - if for some bizarre reason facebook won't take the mp4, you can use another free tool - mpegstreamclip to convert the mp4 to avi (since handbrake doesn't do straight to avi any more).
