for what ever reason I can't get my iPhone to connect to the Mac using bluetooth. Anybody help me walk thru this. I could go to the Genius bar at the local store, but I am getting tired of dragging my but down there, and I am sure they are tired of seeing me. thx

The bluetooth functionality on the iPhone is designed for bluetooth wireless headsets.

You can connect with the computer, but it will do nothing. There are no functions available there except for tethering in some parts of the globe.

For tethering, you can check out this how to.

why does the Mackbook allow me to pair with it then? What is the purpose? Being really new to Mac, I thought that maybe because they were both connected to the same wireless network, that they could share files or something.

Don't know... I guess just because they are both bluetooth. It will pair, it just never connects, at least mine doesn't. The iPhone doesn't have the services necessary to share files.
