I have been using iCal just for adding general events as a schedule for school and work and such things. I don't have any major problems with it but I was wondering if there were any other calendar utilities anyone would recommend?

Try using Google Calendar. Its not great if your away from a WiFi signal (because it is web based) but it works great and you can even sync your current iCal Scheduled items into Google Calendar with ease.

I use BusyCal which calls itself iCal Pro. I like it because it syncs well with my MobileMe and also puts my todo items in the calendar and automatically forwards them when I haven't completed them.
