Love my macbook pro, but it doesn't seem to play vcds out of the box. Tried downloading VLC media player, but that didn't help. Is the included decoder software just crappy, or do I need a specific media player? I know vcds are pretty old fashioned, but I have a number of Chinese instructional vcds I use for martial arts training.

Interesting. I'm surprised VLC won't play them though. What file extension do the movie files have?

Interesting. I'm surprised VLC won't play them though. What file extension do the movie files have?

I frequently get teaching audio CDs from Korea and VLC will not play those either. I'm not sure how they're encoded but when I play them in Windows Media Player in Windows 7, they play fine.

The strange thing is that they don't play with the new Flip4Mac add on for QuickTime. ??

Regards.

I got it mostly working with vlc. Had to go to open file and open each .dat file individually. Not ideal, but it's good enough for what I'm doing.
