I'll start off by saying I did a quick search for this problem in this website and found a similar problem, but no resolution. So I'll make a new thread. Any help would be much appreciated. Here's what's up:

I have a 500GB Western Digital External HDD that's not showing up in my Finder.
I've used it countless times before, but now it just won't show up.
It shows up fine in Disk Utility, but not in the Finder.
When I tried using the First Aid in the Disk Utility, it gave me the message

"Disk Utility stopped repairing “My Book” because the following error was encountered:

Filesystem verify or repair failed."

Any ideas?

And yes, I've tried unplugging and restarting my Macbook Pro.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

Sadly it would generally indicate a dead or dying drive.
Has it exhibited any other symptom, like clicking noises or anything?

Well, it always has made noises when it's working, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Ok. Do you need to access any data on it, or can you leave it, because you're next step could be to try re-formatting the drive to see if that works.

I'd rather not re-format the drive if at all possible.
