So I'm new to the mac world and I discovered the Mail application on my dock. I would love to use it but yahoo says I have to upgrade to mail pro to use it. That costs money and I don't wanna do that!! Is there anyway around this? Thanks!

None that I know of, yahoo requires payment for you to use a mail application of your choice instead of the web interface.

Hotmail tried that for 2-3 years and thousands, if not millions of us, jumped ship to other email providers.

I have a hotmail account and use it through Mail on my Mac. I just Googled "hotmail with Mac Mail" and was able to set it up.
bobtomay is right about Yahoo. You'll have to upgrade if you want to use Yahoo! with Mail. There are other email providers that work with Mail. I forget the names. Thunderbird? Entourage? Something like that.

Those are going to be e-mail clients. Gmail is a provider that provides free POP/IMAP access.
