Hi,

I just got the new Dell u2711 today!!! But... I can't get the resolution to set at 2560 x 1440?? I can only get 1920 x 1080. I'm running an older 1.8 GHz Power PC G5. My graphic card is GeForce FX 5200. Do I need to get a new graphic card to run this monitor at its high res or...?

Thanks

The max resolution on the 5200 is 1920x1200 and a 4:3 aspect (kind of doubt there was any monitor on the market with a higher resolution in '04). So, using a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor, 1920x1080 will be the highest resolution supported by that card.

Although pretty familiar with hardware in general, my experience is post PPC related to Macs.

Do know you'll be looking for a 8x AGP card.
Am thinking it may be unlikely to find an AGP card (especially for a Mac) that supports a resolution that high. Even the ATI 9800Pro only supported 1920x1200 max during that period of time. The X800 XT might go higher, but not sure if it was ever released with a firmware for Macs or not. I just don't recall any monitors on the market back then with a resolution above that 1920x1200 mark.
You might check out OWC to see what they have available.
