• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have flip4mac, but I cannot get some wmv files to play, then I discover that DRM is not supported with flip4mac. Anyone have some input? I need to make these into audio files.

Hi,

1) WMV DRM files will not play in OSX, period. The only way to play them is with windows - so you'll either need to use a virtual machine to install windows to play the file, or use bootcamp (either will require a licensed copy of windows).

2) Usually DRM music is combined with license files to authorize the file to play on a given computer, you'll probably need to make sure you have those, or have the licenses to be able to play the files once you have windows installed.

3) The last part of your issue - desire to make audio files - can't be discussed as it covers violating DRM security which is a forbidden topic on these forums (see: Mac-Forums.com - Announcements in Forum : Movies and Video under the copyright laws section - for that matter, you can also check the posting about DVD ripping, covers the same general topic - basically, if it's any kind of illegal activity, including circumventing DRM, it's forbidden on these forums)

Good luck!
